A Midsummer Night's Dream adaptation
A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare in a contemporary adaptation by The English Theatre Group of Barcelona.
Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream is transported to sometime, somewhere in Catalunya, drawing on local mythology and the feast of ‘La Patum’ celebrated on midsummer night in Berga...
This is the first production by the English Theatre Group of Barcelona (ETGB), formed in October 2013. ETGB was established to fill a void... a theatre school for young and old from all walks of life and all nationalities who want to learn about acting and public speaking, improve their English and fulfill their dream of being creative and treading the boards.
The cast of our first production is made up of professional and semi-professional actors... and students from the theatre school. The script is a modernised adaptation devised by me and refined by the cast in script and character workshops. The aim is to attract local audiences (particularly those of all ages attending language schools and learning English) as well as the expat community.
Leslie Helpert, a blues/jazz singer/songwriter living and performing in Barcelona, has been commissioned to write the original score for the production which has resonances of ‘Sardanas’ and the music of ‘La Patum’. The music will be played live by Leslie (guitar and vocals) and Erica Lauren (cello). All the cast will be participating in the singing.
We are presenting the play for 3 performances only on 4th, 5th and 6th of April 2014 at the Teatre Llluïsos in Gràcia, Plaça del Nord 7. For the website, click here.
Performances are at 8.30pm on April 4th and 5th and at 6.30pm on April 6th. Tickets will be €12 online or on the door (8€ for concessions).
