La Gran Festa de la Calçotada

Every year, on the last Sunday of January, Valls hosts a city-wide barbecue to honour the calçot—a sweet and rich onion famous throughout Catalunya, invented in the 19th-century Valls.

All you need for a calçotada: calçots grilled to a crisp on the barbecue, salvitxada (romesco) sauce, a beer, some napkins and a bib. The festival officially begins at about 9am and ends at about 3pm.
