Felix Millet and Jordi Montull were released without bail after appearing in court yesterday to face charges of stealing money and falsifying documentation (article in Castilian, El Periodico). The two men, the ex-president and ex-administrative director of the Palau de la Música Catalana respectively, are accused of taking a significant amount of money from the Palau over a period of five years. However, after a four-hour court session yesterday, where the two men testified, they were both allowed to go free without bail although they had to hand over their passports to prevent them leaving Spain; prosecutors had sought incarceration. Felix Millet spoke for one hour, confirming the contents of a confessional letter he wrote in mid-September. In the letter, he admitted having used money from the Palau to pay for personal projects, such as building work on his home that cost €1.3 million, trips for his family up to a value of €500,000 and the sale of a property to the Palau for twice what he'd paid for it.
From November 1st, Barcelona is to have new neighbourhood rubbish bins that will be more accessible for disabled residents (article in Catalan, Avui). The process to replace the existing containers will take four months and will see 27,000 new bins placed around the city for residents to deposit their waste. As well as being easier to use for disabled people, the new bins have a more ergonomic design and there will be five different types of container for both organic and non-organic rubbish, and items to be recycled. In addition, they will be fixed to the road to prevent them being moved around. The new model is already being used in some other Catalan towns and is due to be extended around Spain.
