The Ayuntamiento are moving to reduce alcohol consumption with plans to ban 2x1 promotions in bars and to break the association of alcohol with sporting and cultural events (article in Castilian, La Vanguardia) The hope is to reduce alcohol consumption by minors by limiting price promotions and reduce the number of events being sponsored by drink brands. The Plan de Acción sobra Drogas de Barcelona (PADB) will be introduced this year and will cover all drugs including legal drugs like alcohol and tobacco plus those that are illegal. Carles Martí, the deputy mayor of wellbeing said that the plan's fundamental principles will be prevention of illness caused by heavy alcohol intake and to reduce consumption by making people aware of the negative repercussions for individuals, families and society with special attention being taken with adolescents.
Some thirty people were injured when a crash occurred on the Diagonal between a bus, a taxi and a car yesterday afternoon (article in Castilian, La Vanguardia) According to sources from the Ayuntamiento twenty of the injured, the majority of them passengers from the bus, had been taken to different hospitals whilst the rest were treated at the scene. Three of them suffered fractures whilst the rest suffered minor cuts. The accident happened at 14.35 yesterday afternoon and involved a number 15 bus that was travelling towards Besòs. The Guardia Urbana are investigating the cause of the accident and took various statements from witnesses at the scene.
The Mossos d'Esquadra have opened a criminal investigation against the board of the Fundació Orfeo Català in the Palau de la Musica Catalana, ordered by Barcelona judge Julí Solà (article in Castilian, El Periodico). It is seeking to discover reasons behind the disappearance of €2 million between 2003 and 2004. Criminal proceedings have been started following a complaint filed by the fiscalía de Barcelona which alleged misappropriation and forgery against the managers and directors of the foundation, including the chairman of the board Félix Millet Tusell. La Agencia Tributaria were said to have discovered a large number of withdrawals of €500 notes with some of the them (withdrawals) reaching €300,000 between 2003 and the start of 2004. As of yesterday two Mossos were posted outside the iconic building not letting anyone inside.
