Writers and actors met over the weekend to remember 70 years since the start of the repression against the Catalan language (article in Castilian). The asociación de actores y dirèctores profesionales de Catalunya (AAPC) and the comisión de la Dignidad who organised the event meet in the Jardinets de Gràcia to read manifestos, poems, and speeches designed to reclaim the Catalan language. The spokesperson for the Comisión, Pep Cruanyes, speaking in front of the 500 people who attended the event said, 'We are trying to represent and highlight the repression against the Catalan language with the reading of satirical texts by actors and directors who make the vitality of the Catalan language visible.'
The Ayuntamiento de Barcelona has revealed restoration plans for the Colón statue, one of the cities iconic tourist spots. (article in Castilian) The statue which dates back to 1888 and was designed by Gaietà Buïgas last underwent reforms in 1982 and was last cleaned before the Olympic Games in 1992. It hasn't faired well over time due to the forces of weather and corrosion and has lost some parts including some of the chains from his bronze medallions. In October a crane was erected in order to photograph the imperfections of the statue. The tourist attraction receives around 150.000 visitors and is one of the most popular attractions in the city. Every day around 300 people take the lift to the viewing platform.
The Picasso Museum of Barcelona has launched a network of places in Catalunya where the famous painter visited, was influenced by and feature in his work such as Gósol, Horta de Sant Joan and the Fundación Palau de Caldes d'Estrac (article in Castilian). Picasso visited Horta de Sant Joan in 1898 and in the summer of 1909, two important times in his evolution as an artist, the first time he practiced a free and personal style and during the second visit he had embarked on cubism, commented the president of the Centro de Horta, Elias Gastón. To mark two hundred years since the painter's visit the centre will be holding 2 exhibitions which will include portraits of the painters friends in Catalunya. The second of which will be 20 photos taken by Picasso of landscapes, people and of his own works.
