The government release figures about Spain's unemployment which show that at the end of 2011, there was a record 5,273,000 unemployed;one of the first economic measures of Mariano Rajoy's tenure is to ensure the financial sustainability of the government and the draft budget stability will be approved today; the significant rise in public transport prices in Barcelona have resulted in the FAVB and Memetros associations seeking an alternative solution to help quell protests.

EL PERIODICO (Castilian / Catalan)

Rafael Nadal defeated Roger Federer in the semi-finals of the Australian open meaning he will face either Novak Djokovic or Andy Murray in the final; Twitter announced this morning that they will censor "tweets" which do not correspond with government regulations or which violate or offend national laws; Iberia airlines have been forced to cancel 93 of today's 277 flights as pilot strikes continue.
