The top three seeds all advanced to the quarter-finals of the Barcelona Open yesterday, after securing comfortable straight-set victories against their opponents.
Rafael Nadal defeated Colombian Robert Farah 6-2 6-3 while Andy Murray hit nine aces to ease past Santiago Giraldo 6-1 6-2. 2008, 2009 and 2011 runner-up David Ferrer will be looking to go one better this time around and he impressed with a 6-0 6-2 win against international compatriot Albert Montanes.
The shock of the round of 16 came when no. 6 seed Nicolas Almagro was defeated by Canadian no.11 seed Milos Raonic 6-3 6-3.
Elsewhere in the competition, Janko Tipsarevic, Feliciano Lopez, Kei Nishikori and Fernando Verdasco won their respective matches to set up some mouth-watering quarter-final clashes.
