El Miracle 120 Tempranillo Shiraz 2008 from the Bodegas of Vicente Gandia was created to commemorate their 120-year anniversary, but it's done much more than that. It's set a new standard for modern Valencian wines by establishing their product as 'lifestyle' wines for a younger generation of wine drinkers. It's a shrewd move for a region that doesn’t get a great deal of kudos on the wine drinking circuit and is helping put the area on the map. If traditionally Valencia wines have been seen as somewhat dusty, fusty and best saved for afternoons in the country around a big pan of paella, Vicente Gandia are also exploring art, design and labelling to give their brands added pizzazz. The El Miracle 'art' range from the D.O. Alicante are already achieving cult status as a collectible bottle, which I’ll be checking out in the next couple of days.

Meanwhile El Miracle 120 offers easy drinking, accessibly priced reds that combine a healthy dose of the peppery, spicy shiraz grape with the softer, rounder nuances of Tempranillo to create a wine that is a great match to the warm days and cooler nights of spring. In terms of pairing then, I’d say a good match with grilled lamb chops, grilled aubergines and lots of alioli, and a great match to a pizza or a bowl of pasta with tomato sauce. vincentegandia.com

    Hello King Prawn.

Apologies for taking so long to respond to this post. Your best bet is probably Lavinia (lavinia.es) uptown on Diagonal, or Vila Viniteca (vilaviniteca.es). They may even be happy to order it for you.

Valencian wines still seem to be slow to make it out of their direct region, but it is happening. And they are getting better all the time.

    Thanks for reading. TS
