Originally known as Baby, his name later became l'Avi (grandfather), this was the first elephant at Barcelona Zoo, who lived and died there at the start of the last century. Like the albino gorilla Snowflake who came after him, l'Avi was a much-loved inhabitant of Barcelona and an emblem of the time. When he died in 1914, the Zoologic Museum put his skeleton on show, where it stayed until 2001. Now it's been totally restored and on show to the general public once again. A great chance to see the large-scale dimensions of this mammal.
