Courting the Bull is a recently published anthology of expatriate literature which covers fiction, essays and poetry. The selection of work deals almost exclusively with the experiences of foreign residents as they pick their way through the many trials and tribulations of leaving their home countries and coming to live in Spain. The stories are set all over the country, from city living and lost romances in Madrid, to adjusting to a slower pace in a sleepy village near Almeria, and new teacher angst with the English language in the classroom.

You will recognise many of the themes, such as the inevitable language faux pas, becoming accustomed to new timetables and traditions, and the difficulties of cross-culture relations that have probably happened to us all. Highlights include 'The Highest Mile' by Sue Burke that describes her first trek across a beautiful stretch of the Camino Santiago de Compostela and the funny charm of 'The Night I Got Lost in the Metro' by Matthew Johnson.

Read this entertaining book if you have ever wondered if you are the only one trying to cross these obstacles and hurdles in your new life abroad.

We have two copies of Courting the Bull to give away. To win one, tell us the name of Ernest Hemingway's 1926 novel that features bullfighting. Send your answer to info@creativemediagroup.es to arrive by 2pm on Friday October 30th, 2009. Winners will be notified by e-mail. Please note that winners must collect their book from our editorial office.

  • Courting a bull?

Regarding courting, the dictionary says: (of animals) to attempt to attract (a mate) by engaging in certain species-specific behaviors. I would like to see the youtube clips.
