Tapantoni, a new edition of the “tapas” tour in Sant Antoni
It has been at the top of the trendiest districts of Barcelona for a long time. The increase of charming and full-of-personality spots has turned it into a breeding ground for gastronomic trends and a cosy meeting point of those who escape from the already too-crowded Gràcia area.
Tapantoni is back in town!
Sant Antoni has a lot to offer and wants to prove it once again with a new edition of the already applauded Tapantoni initiative. After the huge success of the two first editions, which took place in May and September of 2013, this time it wants to consolidate the participation and reach those who missed it last year. Since April 2nd, it is already possible to enjoy the most appealing and affordable after-work proposals by all kind of bars, cafeterias and restaurants in the neighbourhood.
The return of the pairings
A portion of calamari accompanies a beer in El Racó de Manso and a piece of apple pie is the official partner of the cafe latte in El Forn d'en Pau bakery. In another part of Sant Antoni, in El Duende, meatballs are served with a Moritz “quinto”, while El Petit Ballet offers generous servings of “embotits” and cheese to everyone ordering a beer or a cup of wine.
Tapantoni is a great opportunity to recuperate the old and so cool tradition of pairings, where drinks are served together with small food dishes, popularly called “tapas”, a worldwide famous symbol of our country. Indeed, this is a very common habit in many other territories in Spain, but it has never been common in Catalonia, so it is really hard to find it in Barcelona nowadays. Luckily, great ideas like Tapantoni are enormously helping to reverse the process and enrich the gastronomic experience.
The perfect Wednesday plan
Creative and surprising, classic and tasty, mysterious and shocking or sweet and delicious. Wednesdays in Sant Antoni are fun and yummy, offering proposals for everyone and inviting to tour the district in search for as many pairings as possible. If you can't wait for the next Wednesday to arrive, you can check on the official web page (http://www.tapantoni.com/) the current “tapas” and the spots that participate in the event. Most of the pairings will change weekly, so you can see which ones are being offered day to day on the Internet. Another option, if you prefer to be surprised on the go, is printing the Tapantoni's tour map and start the route directly.
Bon profit, Barcelona foodies!
