Food bank quadruples donations
The Banco de Alimentos de Barcelona has quadrupled the amount of food that it distributes from 489 tons in 2012 to 1,839 tons in October of this year. Most of the food comes from programmes associated with the EU and from wholesalers of Mercabarna.
Barcelona exodus slows down
In 2013, 53,000 people left Barcelona to live somewhere else, the lowest figure since 2003. As the cost of living in areas near Barcelona has risen, less people are leaving to find cheaper housing elsewhere. At the same time, the city received more than 76,000 new residents in the same period, more than compensating the loss.
