FC Barcelona have won this season’s La Liga title after defeating Granada 3-0 on Saturday, pipping bitter rivals Real Madrid to the post by just one point. Luis Suarez, who has taken on the mantle of Barca’s talisman this season from Lionel Messi, scored a hat-trick to secure the club’s sixth league title in eight seasons. On Monday, the players celebrated their achievement with an open-top bus victory parade through the city.
Manager Luis Enrique spoke of his delight at his team’s achievement: “The title is very hard to win, but it was well deserved and the hard work of my team throughout the season must be praised.” Suarez, who has scored an incredible 40 goals this season, still has one eye on this Sunday’s Copa del Rey final against Sevilla: “I score goals thanks to the help of my teammates. They give me the chances and I just put them away. We can celebrate now, but we must shortly turn our attention back to the cup.”
